If you followed Kehlani's career (and social media) this year, you can't deny she's been on her grind. Whether topping the R&B Billboard charts, selling out arenas worldwide, or giving back to the community, Kehlani puts in work. The 22-year-old singer received a $50,000 backing investment from Backstage Capital for her latest venture 'Flora.' Backstage Capital, is a venture capital firm that invests in people of color. Arlan Hamilton, the founder of Backstage Capital, will be serving as a mentor and adviser for Flora. So what exactly is Flora? The details are still developing but here's what we do know:
- Focus on health and wellness
- Target audience is 16-25
- tagline is "Curated Green Content"
- Co-founders Alaxic Smith and Reid Williams
In a statement to Tech Crunch Kehlani said, “Bridging the gap between my career, activism & my audience is important to me as a next step.” She further expressed her excitement working with Hamilton, “I am incredibly honored to work with Arlan, not only due to her outstanding work in the tech world, but her consistency in supporting queer women of color. I look forward to creating positive change & making strides in tech.”
Kehlani took to Instagram Tuesday morning to express her gratitude and announced she will be attending AfroTech.
